    just ordered somthing pretty cool

I just ordered the Rossi "Trifecta". its a rifle, muzzloader, and shotgun all in 1. how it works is, its a single shot break action type gun. the cool thing is, the barrels are interchangeable. so basically, you go from shooting a .50 cal muzzle loader, break it open and put the 12 gauge barrel on it.

my uncle told me about it when i was in NC a few weeks ago. he has the same set and its pretty unique. fits a big niche for hunters and shooters alike.

this set has a .50 cal muzzle loader, .243 winchester (rifle) and a 12 gauge shotgun. all for $320

That is cool - never seen anything like it.

I bet it kicks like a mule, though. Most single shots do. Don't think I'd want to take this to the trap range! LOL

    Good utility gun, though!

I'll need to look up it's real name, but I call it my multi-rifle. It's a break-action (aim, cock, shoot) breech loader, with a whole variety of barrels from .223 to 45-70 and 12, 16 and 20-ga. It's only downside is it's one shot-n-reload that you get with all breech loaders. But for hunting it comes with a lot of other perks IMO: first is that it is very solid and rugged, like most well built break-actions, there just aren't that many parts in it to break. second, however you aim with each barrel (ironsight or scope), the aimpoints and mounts and scope or w/e you have mounted to it for your aiming pleasure stay and go with the barrel. So long as you're not careless, it will stay sighted with each different barrel as you prefer. third, it's pretty damn safe unless you're too stupid/proud - not the hardest think to break the action and insert or pull a live round, and it's single-action, so you can arm/cock it while drawing it up for a bead if you unexpectedly spook a bird. fourth, you CAN go quail hunting and boar hunting AND rabit hunting all in one trip now. Cover ground with your shotgun barrel on and loaded incase you flush out a bird. Stumble upon a grazing deer at a distance in a meadow - one large screw out, old barrel off, new barrel in, large screw in, bullet and your locked, loaded and sighted in for your shot. If you get tired and decide it's time for beer and salami - swap on the .223 and find a good perch on the edge of a field to drink, munch and pickoff dinner.

Especialy if you're into reloading, having a gun like this is great to test a vareity of loads with in one trip, or use up any odd or leftover loads you'd like to get rid of.

If this is the first you've heard of these type of guns, you're gonna regret just missing Christmas. The only thing they lack if rate of fire, otherwise they're awesome if you like going out light but also like shooting/carrying more than one round/gun.

    i hear ya bab.

my dad absolutly HATES single shot hunting guns (other then .22 and .410). he hates bolt action period. all he will take hunting is an automatic shotgun or rifle. his reason is "if you miss its easier to stay on target and shoot again"

well I've deer hunted since I was 8 with a winchester 70,remington 700, or a rem 870. all of witch are bolt and pump. im yet to miss.
of course it all depends on your preference but in the woods my beleif is you get one shot before they take off running. no matter if you had a machine gun, once they start running you gotta shoot between and through bushes on a moving target. I just dont miss. it could be my experience with engaging targets at 800 meters where the bullet is in the air for 3 seconds. but any gun properly sighted is just as good as any other. after putting thousands of rounds through bolt action rifles as a civi and Marine I can cycle a bolt just as fast as the avg hunter can empty a 5 shot clip with an automatic.

Rossi guns are highly accurate. single shot guns are some of the most accurate guns in the world. I can wait to blast away with this thing

Yeah I agree, my multi-gun is definetley one of the more burtal shoulder chewers I own (but it depends on the round and the load if its one that I've reloaded myself), I haven't found a good all-in-one stock butt that I like shooting with high-velocity rifle rounds that is also great for your shoulder after poping a few dozen clays with the 12-ga. 16-ga isn't a problem, 12-ga for me either really (I used to shoot clays a lot, and since 12-ga is almost exclusively target skeet with me I use lighter loads when I do shoot 12-ga), now some smokeless heavy 45-70s.... cheyow - I almost wouldn't do it if it didn't sound so damn good (or blow a hole large enough to turn any single target into at least two )
