You guys crack me up. Complaining about historical inaccuracies in a Hollywood movie. Historically accuratge films are called documentaries and not made for the masses or the big screen. Sure it takes a lot of iberties, but for me, it was still a fun movie to watch.

Well in a very myopic way you're correct. The Civil War was about state's rights and preservation of wealth and income for the landed. Much of the old south's plantations at that time were depleted and eroded from bad soil and crop management, forcing southerners to be buy, clear, plant and mismanage land in the territories. Luckly for the wealthy they had labor at their disposal to do these jobs cheaply and also sell that labor as a major source of income. Now to say the Civil War was not about slavery all you have to do is ignore the fact that the south's wealth and income was based on using human beings as draft animals and livestock to be breed and sold.

Sorry about the offtopic but he started it

Slavery was the canard for motivating a necessary part of the northern population into the issue. The general non political and money classes were never motivatable by states rights or macro economics. Only emotional imagry. The general voting population of the north did not give a rats ass about slavery or if the south secceded. Only the robber barons and the political class did. But, they needed an army to fight for their interests. Not a very unique ploy as far as history is concerned.

Specificly breeding slaves to produce sellable stock was frownd upon by white southern society. Freed blacks as slave owners bred slaves as resale stock in the south. There was a very long history of it in africa before slaves ever set foot on our shores. Lincoln capitolised on the war to achive a speedier end to the issue of slavery by executive fiat. Slavery was not covered by the constitution so it was an issue for the individual states to deal with. The south was levereged to it's gills to the northern robber barons. It was secede or turn over the south to a handfull of wealthy northern interests. The war simply delayed that. Slavery as the reason for the war was a canard.

Even if the civil war had not happened, slavery would have passed on slowly in the face of mechinisation and public preassure without the horrific cost of life from the war. In the decade up to the civil war fewer slaves were being purchased by whites for labor versus more were being purchased by single mullato women living in southern population centers for house servants. A bit of an epidemic of indiscretion had been going on in the south for some time. If you look through court house records you will find an epidemic of freed mullato's going on up to the war. Those pesky southern court house records no one can get ride of.

History is written by the winners and 100 years later manipulated to serve the sociopolitical ideology of the time. Speaking of history being written by the winners. In 1869 the then northern interests dominated supreme court ruled in Texas v. White that secession was unconstitutional. While commenting that revolution or consent of the states could lead to a successful secession. Before 1869 with a court ruling favoring the winner of the civil war battel field decision, the constitution only had a provosion for accepting states into the union. Until the civil war what the constitution did not address was left to the individual states to deal with as they saw fit.

Secession would have been the greatest chapter 11 fileing in the history of the world and the northern Industrial Financial barons were not going to stand for it. Follow the money. Slavery as the reason for that war was a usefull tool.

From the big bang the universe is connected no matter how far the matter travels apart. Especialy if one understands matter is an energy state and string theory proposes the energy of those strings responds to each others vibrations.

And the fact that movie producers tend to release garbage movies with a demographic message during presidential election years is a known phenomenon thus discounting any determination by Chaos Theory.

The root assumption of what the Tuskegee Airmen are overcoming is the history of white opression from the beginings of our nation. The very first person of african decent owned as a slave in the thirteen colonys was John Casor in 1654. His master was a person of african decent brought to the colonies as an indetured servent who worked off his contract. He was Anthony Johnson captured by black slavers in Angola and sold to a british farmer as an indetured servent for a period not exceeding 8 years. Thats how my family came over from england as indentured servants with some in chains and why they setteled into the wilderness of Sand Mountain Alabama.

Johnson purchased Casor's contract then stiffed him on the time to be worked off by saying in court he never saw any document to the term of indenturment thus declaring Casor a servent for life. The court ruled for Johnson and also ruled free negro's in the colony could own negro slaves for life. Don't learn that in grade school. Even in college.
