Well all, after being in the squad (unofficially) for about 5 days, I started having sound problems within AH.

Here are the symptoms: (note these are all through headphones)
1: I can not hear my own plane's engine
2: I can not hear the startup/shutdown of my plane's engine
3: I can not hear vox.
4: All other sounds come through clear.
5: If my head is pointed forward in the cockpit, weapons fire is muffled, but if I turn my head to left or right, I can hear the weapons fire at normal volume.

** I can hear my plane's engine through my external speakers when I turn the amplifier up all the way.

Have you ever seen this set of symptoms before? I am using an integrated sound card at this time, and my headphones use the speaker output.

Needless to say, I've been having a blast flying with you guys over the last few days, so this can't be happening at a worse time. I've posted this on the AH tech support bbs without any real leads thus far.

Any thoughts pigs?

many thanks

Welcome aboard Glennco you swine! Check the following:

1)Sound setting levels in AH itself for the specific airplane noises etc. you mentioned
2)Check your mic input/output settings in your computer itself
3)Make sure you post your help request in the Help forum and not one of the technical glitch areas of the AH Website

Configuring the microphone as the recording device This is a generic description of how to configure the microphone as the recording device in Windows. Windows only allows one audio recording device to be selected at a time. As the method to setting the recording device varies from sound card to sound card, this may not reflect exactly how your screen will look, but it should be a good approximation of what you must do to make sure the microphone is the default recording device in Windows.First, from the Windows desktop, you will need to right-click on the speaker ICON in the Windows task bar. It should be located on the far right portion of the task bar.A menu will pop-up and one of the options should be Adjust Audio Properties or something to that effect. Again, it may not be exact.
A panel similar to the one shown at the right should appear. Select the Audio tab. In this section you will see controls for Playback, Recording, and Music or MIDI Playback.Press the Advanced button in the Sound Recording panel, near the center.
After pressing the Advanced button from the sound control panel, the panel to the right will appear. Note the two sliders available, and you may have other options as well.Hardware AccelerationThis slider controls the CPU priority when a sound needs to be played. The more to the right the slider is, the higher the priority sounds will get over other functions. If you are having stutters in the game when sounds are played, then move this to the location shown in the panel.Sample rate conversion qualityThis slider sets the quality of the recording. This can have an adverse effect on CPU performance if it is set to high. After you are done here, press the OK button and you will be returned to the Sound and Multimedia panel. When you get back there, press the Volume button in the Sound Recording section.
The panel shown at the right will appear. If Microphone is not in the panel, the press the Options menu button.
Select Properties from the popup menu.
In the Properties panel, find Microphone in the list and put a check mark beside it. This will allow you to control the microphone in the audio properties.
Now that you have the Microphone listed in the Recording Control, you need to put a check-mark in the Select box to make the microphone the default recording device in Windows. This will allow the microphone to work in the game. This takes care of the recording section of getting your microphone working. You need to do one more thing before it is fully operational.
From the Sound and Multimedia panel, in the Play section, press the Volume button. The panel to the right will appear. Make sure the Mute option is checked under the Microphone listing.
You now be able to use voice in the game. If not, then try selecting the Use Wave In option in the voice preferences of the game.Let's head back to the voice setup page.

It is a starting point. Hope it helps!

Way:welcome:

glenn

i know you stated in your post on HTC BBS that you checked all your sound settings in the game. there is no need to reinstall Aces High.

try going to my computer, local disk C:, program files, HTC folder, Aces High folder, settings folder, and delete the file marked video8.cfg, then log back into aces high and this will reset all your ingame settings to default. see if that works.

if not please post a dxdiag report here, to do this click the start bar, click run, then type dxdiag and click run. this will bring up a report save it and post the first 1/3 of it here and i can help you some more.

in order to help you past an HTC setting i got to see what you computer is made of and the dxdiag report will do that. you can ask any of these guys i will not hack or do any stupid chit with your settings. Salute

one other thing, what kind of headset are you using???

Brother Kilz!

I do not know. I've been MIA for 3 days and haven't seen anyone. When I was on Thursday night I didn't see him then but most of us were in the AvA and he might not have known that.

How's the artic?

Do you have 5.1 speakers? if so be sure your computer is set for "5.1" sound, sometimes when I forget to switch from "headphones", I get wonky sound from my speakers.

Also, try this:
Start >> run >> then type dxdiag <enter>

Look at the sound 1, sound 2, music and input tabs to look for any conflicts and click the "test direct sound" buttons to run a series of tests.

A lot depends on your sound card, is it built in? USB? you have the latest drivers for it? and does it have a DSP (digital signal processor)? A sound card with no DSP relies on the cpu to crunch music... and depending on how many devices you have installed could have a resource (IRQ) conflict. A game / sound card driver re-install can often times correct any hardware conflicts.
