Hello Pigs,
My usual rule of thumb for engaging any aircraft with a Wirbelwind is 1.5k or less. Due to the amount of damage that the above listed aircraft can absorb, I recommend beginning firing as soon as you see the Icon distance hit 2.0k or less. The quicker you can get cannon shells into any of these four types of aircraft the better. As far as targeting, I always focus on the wing roots for all four aircraft types, the cockpit and engines being my second choice of targets. My thought is that the Ostwind is just as vital as the Wirbelwind due to the punishment it can deal out at much longer range. We certainly will need to up both types to keep our GV's protected adequately.

I have been working on best areas to hit on the IL-2 whether in the Wirbel or The Ostwind. Best target will be wing roots about 1/3 way out the wing. Seems to be most vulnerable spot when they are heading right at you. If you have a side shot focus on the tail, as it seems to separate fairly easily.

Thank you Waystin I got 2 victories in a wirble today but they had to get to like 200 to 400 out before I could hit them. Not hitting from 800-1000 like I get killed by them.
killing with the wirble. you neeed to learn to watch your stream of led zoom in and don't use your recpticle just watch your stream of led. death to bishrooks.

Hi TnDep, do you use the default gun sight? If so, that's ok, but try setting the point of your cursor point right on the center dot. Then use your page up button to raise the view up and then hit F-10 to save the view. Now you can more easily see your targets and use the point of your cursor as the aim point.
Remember, leading your target is critical. So is compensating for bullet drop. If your target is coming straight at you, don't aim right at it, but aim above it.
Here is a training tip. In the main arena, get on a 20 mm gun toward the front of the carrier. Make sure it's a CV where guys are taking off. Then just practice shooting at them. you can practise leading and bullet drop compensation. But let people know on ange what you are doing or they could get cranky.
